Renew Qatar ID in Metrash
An expired Qatar ID, or one close to expiring, blocks access to government services and blocks leaving the country. Check the validity, then renew Qatar ID in the Metrash app before it expires. Renewing on time prevents late renewal fines. A validity check showing an expired Qatar ID is the case this renewal is for.
Use these steps to renew your expired Qatar ID online.
- Log in to the Metrash app using your Qatar ID number and password.
- Click on “Residency” on the main page.
- Select “Residency Renewal” from the Residency Services list.
- Enter the QID number(s) that you want to renew and click on “Add.”
- Choose the type of transaction (Personal or Company) and click on “Next.”
- Check the names of the persons whose QIDs are to be renewed, and click on “Continue” to submit the application.
- Select your preferred delivery method to receive your new Qatar ID.
- Fill out the payment information and wait to receive your new QID card.
Documents required to renew your Qatar ID
To renew your Qatar ID or residency permit (RP) through the Metrash mobile app, you will need the following documents:
- Qatar ID number.
- Valid Qatari residence permit.
- Registered Qatari mobile number in your name.
The requirements are the same for both MOI’s e-services website and the Metrash app for renewal of Qatar ID when its validity expires.
Qatar ID renewal time in Metrash
Renewing a Qatari ID card takes 24 hours to 5 business days according to guides, but can take more if the service fee is delayed. The MOI Residence Permit Renewal page, checked on 2 November 2026, leaves Service Time blank and does not state this timeframe.
Check the status of your Qatar ID to see if it has been renewed. Use the Inquiry method with your Qatar ID Number and follow the instructions.
After renewing your QID, check the expiration date of your health card. An expired health card means an online request for Health Card Renewal Qatar can be submitted.
Qatar ID renewal fees
- Individuals sponsored by personal sponsorships, servants, farmers, or sailors are required to pay a fee of QR 300 annually + QR 100 for ID card (QR 400 in total). The MOI Residence Permit Renewal page states this fee; it does not name servants, farmers or sailors.
- The sponsorship fee for renewing the ID of a wife, a child, or a family is reported as QR 500 for 1 year. The MOI pages checked on 2 November 2026 do not state a QR 500 fee.
- Employers, institutions, companies, and shops can sponsor their employees for a fee of QR 1,000 annually + QR 100 for ID card. The MOI First Time Residence Permit page states this fee for company sponsorship; the MOI Residence Permit Renewal page does not break out a company fee.
- In case of a 3-year renewal, individuals, companies, wives, children, and families are eligible for a 20% discount.
- Qatar Post delivery is reported to cost an additional fee of QR 20. The MOI page checked on 2 November 2026 does not state any Qatar Post delivery wording or QR 20 fee in its Service Details, Fees, Terms or Location sections.
The delivery fee remains the same even when you submit a Change Date of Birth in Qatar ID application online due to a mistake in your initial application.
Penalty for an expired Qatar ID
The penalty for an expired Qatar ID is reported as QR 10 per day after the deadline has passed. The MOI page checked on 2 November 2026 does not state any penalty or QR 10 wording in its Service Details, Fees or Terms sections. Renew your Smart MOI Qatar ID and Residence Permit (RP) before it expires to avoid incurring these charges.
