Qatar Health Card: Apply, Renew, Check Expiry, and Register for MyHealth

A Qatar health card allows residents of Qatar to access services at Hamad Medical Corporation facilities and hospitals. It is the route to subsidised consultations and non-emergency treatments, and to subsidised prescriptions at government-run pharmacies. If you need care in the public system, the health card is the starting point. The direct answer is that you apply through the Nar’aakom app and the National Authentication System, or through Primary Health Care Corporation, you renew through the Hukoomi Health Card E-Service, you check expiry through a separate Hukoomi transaction that needs only a QID number, and you register for the MyHealth patient portal through the HMC website. Each route has its own documents, fee, and limits, and this guide keeps them separate.

Who Applies Where: Single Residents and Married Residents

Hamad Medical Corporation states that single residents apply through PHCC or HMC facilities, and married residents apply through PHCC only. That distinction decides the first step, so check which line applies to you before you start. Obtaining a health card allows access to HMC facilities and hospitals.

Apply for a New Health Card Through Nar’aakom and NAS

The HMC page describes an online apply route. Download the Nar’aakom app for Android or iOS, then log into the National Authentication System, known as NAS, with your QID number and password. Choose register for a new health card. Select the applicant, yourself or another person. Complete the personal and contact details. Upload a copy of your QID and a rental contract or a KAHRAMAA bill. Submit the application.

One limit is stated on the same page. If an application is already in process for the same applicant, no second request can be submitted until the pending one is cancelled. Do not submit a duplicate application for the same person while one is still in process. Cancel the pending application first, as the page requires.

Apply Through PHCC and Collect at Your Assigned Health Centre

The PHCC Nar’aakom e-services page lists the e-services available. They are Add Dependent Account, Change My Family Physician, Change My Health Center, Register New Health Card, My Appointments, and Video Consultations. The health card route through PHCC is a request for yourself or your dependents, collected at the assigned health centre, with QR 100 paid at the health centre.

Eligibility on the PHCC page is clear. Your QID must be valid for at least one year. Dependents must be under 18 with a valid QID, and dependent accounts are auto-disabled at 18. Dependent requests include registering for a health card, managing appointments, and obtaining medical reports. Access needs a Tawtheeq account, which is the National Authentication System account. The page states the route is for residents with a QID who are over 18. Video consultations are listed on the same page through the 16000 hotline or 107, with emergency at 999, but those numbers are not the health card application route, and they are not part of the application steps.

Documents You Need Offline, by Applicant Type

The HMC page lists offline documents by applicant type. Use the line that matches the applicant, and do not carry a document from one line into another.

  • Qatari adult: copy of a valid QID or passport, plus a photo measuring 4cm by 3cm.
  • Qatari child: QID number, plus the old health card.
  • GCC adult or child: copy of ID, plus QID number, plus the old health card.
  • Resident adult: QID with a valid residence permit, plus the old health card.
  • Resident child: QID with a valid residence permit, plus the old health card, plus the sponsor QID.
  • Domestic staff: QID with a valid residence permit, plus the old health card, plus the sponsor QID.

For the online Nar’aakom route, the documents stated are a QID copy and a rental contract or KAHRAMAA bill. That online document list is separate from the offline list above. Do not assume the offline list replaces the online upload list, or the reverse.

Fees, Exactly as the Official Pages Label Them

Fees differ by route and by applicant type, and the labels matter. This section keeps each fee with the page and the label that states it.

New card fees on the HMC page are: Residents QR 100, and manual workers QR 50. No Qatari or GCC new card fee is stated on that page.

The fee table on the HMC page states: Qatari adults and children QR 50, GCC citizens QR 50, Residents QR 100, and Domestic staff QR 50. Read that table as the HMC page presents it. Do not read it as a renewal fee table on its own, because the Hukoomi renew page states its own renewal fee separately below.

Replacement fees on the HMC page are stated in two lines, and the two lines must not be merged. Replacement of a still valid card: Qatari QR 50, non-Qatari QR 100. Replacement of an expired card: Qatari QR 100, non-Qatari QR 200. Those expired card figures are replacement fees. They are not renewal fees.

Renewal through Hukoomi is stated separately. The Hukoomi Request to Renew Health Card page shows a fee row for health card renewal for residents at QR 100, and the page header shows Fees QR 100. The PHCC route states QR 100 paid at the health centre. Keep the renewal fee and the replacement fees in their own lines. A reader who pays a replacement fee after a card expires is not paying the same transaction as a renewal, even if the numbers look close.

Renew Your Health Card Through Hukoomi

The Hukoomi renew service is an HMC e-service. The page shows request time 2 minutes and fees QR 100. Eligibility is Residents. The documents shown are QID or a QID copy.

The steps on the page are three. First, validate the health card number, with the expanded text stating to check the validity of the entered number of the lost or expired health card. Second, select the period to extend the health card validity. Third, payment, with the text stating to pay the fees through one of the available options.

For the second step, the Hukoomi page states: “Select the validity of the health card. It can be renewed for up to 5 years for citizens. As for residents, the duration depends on their residency type and validity.” No fixed multi-year period for residents is stated beyond that dependence on residency type and validity.

The service description on the renew page states: “If you or a family member has a health card that has expired or will expire soon, you need to renew it to continue accessing healthcare services in the State of Qatar.”

The HMC page states its own online-renewal flow, separate from the Hukoomi steps above: enter the QID, select the renew transaction type, enter the number of years and a telephone number, with an optional email receipt or SMS notification, then enter the payment details and pay. Renewal can also be done immediately at any HMC hospital through the Patient and Visitor Service Center, as stated on the HMC page. That is a separate route from the Hukoomi online steps above.

Check the Expiry Date With Only a QID Number

The Hukoomi Check Expiry of Health Card transaction exists, and it is separate from renewal. The page is an HMC e-service. It shows request time 1-2 minutes and fees Free. The service description states that the service allows you to check the expiry date of your health card or that of another person. Eligibility is Residents. No documents are required.

There is one step. Enter the QID number and click Next to view the expiry date. That is the whole transaction as shown on the page: no second step, login step, or document step is stated. If you need the expiry date only, use this transaction. If you need to renew, use the renew transaction in the section above.

Register for the MyHealth Patient Portal

MyHealth is a patient portal registration service, not a records viewer hosted on Hukoomi. The Hukoomi page for the service is titled Register in MyHealth Patient Portal for those above 18 Years Old. It is an HMC e-service, last updated 16 Jun 2021. The service allows individuals to register themselves and their children in the MyHealth patient portal and easily access their health records online anytime, anywhere, as well as check their laboratory test results, medication details, medical appointments, and locations of health centers. That access is through the portal itself, after registration. The page also states: “The service shows one single record of information, regardless of the place where the patient has received medical care services at any facility of HMC or the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC).”

The registration steps start on the HMC website, not on Hukoomi. Access the MyHealth Patient Portal Online Registration page on the HMC website. Fill out the online application form with all required personal details. Enter the verification code displayed. Tick the checkbox accepting the portal terms and conditions and privacy policy. Click Next, and an SMS with a One Time Password, known as an OTP, is sent. Enter the OTP and click Verify. If approved, an email message with a link to activate the account is sent.

No fees are required for this service, as stated on the page. If the registration request is rejected, visit any HMC Medical Records section. For more information, call Nesma’ak on 16060 or Hayyak on 107. On Hukoomi itself, only two things are listed: the separate Check Expiry transaction above and this MyHealth registration service. Neither is a records viewer. Do not expect to view records on Hukoomi after registration. Registration is the service Hukoomi lists. Viewing records happens through the portal.

What This Guide Does Not Claim

The Hukoomi renew page answers its own frequently asked questions. For documents, renewal requires a health card number and a valid QID. On timing, the page states: “The renewal process for the health card is immediate upon a successful transaction.” Family members or acquaintances can be renewed, provided the person renewing has their health card number and valid QID. On when to renew, the page states that health cards should be renewed before their expiration date, and that it is advisable to start the renewal process well in advance of the expiry date.

No processing time for a new card is stated in this guide, because no official page cited here states one. No newborn fee is stated, because no official page cited here states one. No advice to renew early to avoid a higher fee is stated, because the higher figures on the HMC page are expired card replacement fees, not renewal fees. If you need a processing time or a newborn route, check the official pages again on the day you act, and do not rely on a competitor figure in the meantime.
