UAE Visa Overstay Fine Check and Grace Periods
An overstay fine is the daily fine charged when you stay in the UAE after your visa or residence permit has expired or been cancelled and the grace period has ended. If your visa has just expired, the first question is not the fine — it is whether you are still inside a grace period. Check your status first, then check the fine on the route for your emirate.
Dubai or the rest of the UAE? Start here
ICP handles visas outside Dubai; GDRFA handles Dubai. The fine rules and the checking routes differ, so use the route for the emirate that issued your visa. Do not carry a figure from one route onto the other.
Check an overstay fine outside Dubai (ICP)
On the ICP route, the fine is AED 50 per day, applied from the day after the grace period ends, depending on your permit type. To pay it, use ICP’s “Payment of visa or residence violation fine” service: submit your details, review or adjust the retrieved data, then pay. You sign in with UAE Pass to start, and no documents are listed for this service. The service page does not state a processing time. Note: no separate ICP service literally named “Fines Inquiry” was found on the official pages checked — the payment service above is the ICP route described here.
Check a fine in Dubai (GDRFA)
Dubai’s “Fines Inquiry Service” is a public form with no sign-in shown on the page. Search by File Number, UDB Number, Emirates ID, or Passport Number, plus date of birth, gender, and a security check. For payment, GDRFA’s “Fine Collection for Violators of Residency Law” service states there are no service fees — you pay only the violation fines — with a 48-hour completion time and Amer centre steps. The GDRFA page does not state a per-day amount, so this guide gives no per-day figure for Dubai. Do not assume ICP’s AED 50 applies in Dubai; it is an ICP-route figure only.
Grace periods: how long you can still stay
The ICP cancellation page lists these grace periods after expiry or cancellation:
- 180 days — Golden, Green and Blue visa holders and their families; widows and divorced women of residents; students after finishing their studies; foreign-passport relatives of UAE citizens.
- 90 days — skilled workers at levels 1–3, and property owners.
- 60 days — permits with a guarantor or host.
- 30 days — all other categories.
A second official wording exists for dependents. The u.ae family-residence page states that dependents are granted a 6-month grace period from the date of expiry or cancellation of their visas to obtain a new residence permit. That wording is broader than the ICP bands above, so both are reported here as written: check which one applies to your permit type rather than assuming either covers you.
For Dubai specifically, GDRFA’s cancellation page separately states a grace period of 60 days after cancellation or expiration of the residence permit. That is a Dubai-only statement and is not merged with the ICP bands above.
What the official pages do not confirm
The u.ae visa-fees page says only that “there is a fine on overstaying” — it gives no per-day amount. The GDRFA fine pages give no per-day amount either. The ICP payment service gives no processing time. If a figure is missing here, it is missing on the official pages checked, and this guide does not fill it from elsewhere.
