Newborn Baby Emirates ID and Visa in the UAE

When a baby is born in the UAE to resident parents, two clocks start: 30 days to register the birth, and 120 days to arrange the baby’s formal documents, including the Emirates ID and the residence visa. Miss the 120-day window and a daily fee applies, and the baby will not be allowed to exit the country. This guide covers only what the official u.ae “Having a baby” page states.

Register the birth within 30 days

The u.ae page states: “Residents have a maximum period of 30 days to register their child’s birth in the UAE.”

Papers for the birth certificate

For residents, the birth-certificate papers listed are: an attested copy of the marriage certificate translated to Arabic, if it is in a language other than Arabic; a copy and the original of the husband’s and wife’s passport; birth notification details from the hospital; and a discharge summary from the hospital. The page adds: “All expatriates must get birth certificates attested by Ministry of Health and Prevention and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

The 120-day window, and the daily fee after it

The u.ae page states: “Residents have 120 days from the birth of their child to arrange the formal documents which includes birth certificates, passports, Emirates ID and visas of their newborn babies. If the residence visa is not finalised within 120 days, then a fee of AED100 per day would be charged for each day over the 120-day period, and the baby will not be allowed to exit the country.”

No ICP step list, document list, or processing time specifically for an expatriate newborn’s Emirates ID is stated on the page checked, so none is given here. No child-card fee is stated either.

For UAE nationals: the ICP and Mabrook routes

For UAE nationals, the hospital birth notification leads to the birth certificate: government hospitals issue it, and private-hospital births apply through the Ministry of Health and Prevention or the emirate health authority. Parents then visit ICP to add the newborn to the family data. Nationals may apply online for a child’s passport and Emirates ID through ICP.

The page also describes the “Mabrook Ma Yak” bundle for UAE nationals: birth certificate, the child’s name added in family data, passport, Emirates Identity card, thiqa insurance, and an optional health card.

Not stated

No biometrics rule for children is stated on the page checked. No fee for a child’s Emirates ID card is stated. No application steps, photo rules, or processing time for an expatriate newborn’s Emirates ID are stated. The sponsor’s family-residence route for the baby’s visa is covered in the family sponsorship guide.
