Qatar Family Residence Visa Requirements
An expatriate resident in Qatar may bring in family under Law No. 4 of 2009, provided the conditions below are met. This guide reports exactly one official source: the Ministry of Interior General Directorate of Passports page titled “Conditions for Family Residence Visa Approval”. No second official page stating these conditions was found in this check, so the conditions are given as that page’s wording, with the gaps stated openly.
The six conditions, as stated on the MOI page
- The applying resident must have a valid residence permit in the country.
- The applicant must produce the marriage certificate attested by the competent authorities as required.
- An employee of government and semi-government entities must have family housing from the employer, or a family housing allowance as specified in the employment contract.
- An official letter confirming the profession and salary of government and semi-government employees must be submitted.
- Private-sector employees must have technical or specialised (non-labour) professions, and the salary must be no less than QR 10,000, or QR 7,000 with a family housing facility.
- Private-sector employees must produce a six-month bank statement from one of the accredited banks in the country to prove salary, plus a notarised employment contract and a copy of an educational certificate to prove the profession.
Note what the salary figure covers: the QR 10,000 (or QR 7,000 with housing) threshold is stated for private-sector employees in technical or specialised professions. No salary figure is stated on the page for government or semi-government employees.
What the page does not state
The page says “their families” without enumerating who may be sponsored: wife and children are not separately listed. No female-sponsor rules, no fees, no medical requirements, and no application channels (Hukoomi, Metrash, or service centres) are stated on the page. The MOI Forms Index lists a “Family Visa Application Form (Bringing in, Residence Renewal, Validity Renewal)” by title only; the form file itself was not opened, so no steps, fields, or fees from it are stated here. A Hukoomi medical-examination page for residence permits exists, but it does not state the examination as a family-residence-visa requirement, so it is not presented as one here.
Directorate contacts
The same MOI directorate page lists: 44890212, 44883777, and bpea@moi.gov.qa.
