How to Replace a Lost or Damaged Qatar ID (Residence Permit)

A residence permit card — the Qatar ID (QID) — is the card that proves a resident’s legal stay in Qatar. If yours is lost or damaged, you do not need to start a new application from scratch: residents can ask the Ministry of Interior (MOI) to replace the card online, through the MOI e-services portal. This guide covers the non-Qatari route only.

Before you start

You must be inside Qatar when you request the replacement. If the card is lost, a security notification for the lost card must be submitted — Hukoomi describes it as an “Implicit” security notification, but the page does not say where or how it is filed, so this guide does not guess. Hukoomi lists no required documents for this service, so do not assume a document list; check the official portal when you apply. The same route covers both a lost card and a damaged card: Hukoomi lists them as one service, and the steps below are the same for both.

Replace it online

  1. Log in with your smart card to the MOI e-services portal.
  2. Select the transaction type: personal (smart card owner) or company name (authorised person).
  3. Select “Residency”, then “Replace Lost/Damaged ID card”.
  4. Enter the expat’s information — your own or a family member’s — and a mobile number.
  5. Choose how to receive the card: collect it personally from the Expatriates Affairs Department, or have it sent by mail courier via Qatar Postal Services Company.
  6. If you choose courier delivery, enter the delivery address and tick the checkbox confirming the information is valid.
  7. Pay the fees, then print or save the receipt.

What it costs

The replacement fee is QR200. If you choose mail courier delivery, add QR20. Those are the only fees Hukoomi states for this service.

The same service is also available on the Metrash mobile app. For courier delivery, the address you enter during the request is the delivery address, and the form asks you to confirm that the information is valid. Hukoomi’s page for this service was last updated on 20 March 2022, so confirm the fee and steps on the official portal before you apply.
