How to Change Your Mobile Number for Metrash SMS Alerts in Qatar

What this change is, and what it is not

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior runs a “Metrash for Individuals” form that manages SMS alert subscriptions: traffic violation alerts, residence permit expiry alerts, driving licence expiry alerts, and car registration expiry alerts. The same form has Subscribe, Change Number, and Unsubscribe buttons.

Be clear about the scope: this form changes the mobile number that receives Metrash SMS alerts. The MOI page does not present it as changing the number on a Metrash app account, and it does not present it as changing the number recorded on a Qatar ID. Do not treat the “Change Number” button as either of those things.

The form and its fields

The form, on the MOI portal’s Metrash index under “Metrash for Individuals”, asks for: QID Number (maximum 11 digits), Mobile Number (maximum 8 digits), Date of Birth (yyyy/mm/dd), Language (Arabic or English), and a verification code from a picture or audio (captcha, with refresh and audio options). The same fields serve all three actions; there is no separate change-number procedure and no field for an old number.

The MOI index describes the wider Metrash service as: subscribing to Metrash for persons, or changing or cancelling personal subscriptions; subscribing for companies, changing an email address, or cancelling subscriptions; and registering an additional number to co-receive Metrash SMS messages. A separate “Register Additional Number” service exists for a secondary SMS receiver, noted in Hukoomi search results as serving persons with disabilities and elderly people.

Conditions stated by MOI

The form’s Conditions dialog states: Metrash is a free service provided by MOI; the service is activated after 24 hours of submitting a subscription request; Metrash is an informative service; the ministry is not liable for damages arising from use, inability to use, or delay in receiving the information; and to maintain privacy, the mobile number requested to receive SMS messages must be registered with the mobile service provider in the name of the service requester.

Whether the 24-hour activation wording applies specifically to a number change, as opposed to a new subscription request, is not stated. No in-person fallback, no support phone or email for Metrash, no OTP or confirmation step, and no app procedure are stated on the page or in the dialog.

Not stated

No step-by-step change-number instructions beyond the form itself, no in-person fallback, no Metrash support contacts, no confirmation step, and no Metrash app number-change procedure are stated on the pages checked.
